Passing on the Gift in Mississippi
LOUISVILLE, Mississippi—The Winston County Self Help Cooperative recently held its third Pass on the Gift ceremony under cold and blustery conditions. In August 2002, 40 Black Angus heifers were distributed to the eight original co-op members to spur economic development in Winston and surrounding counties. These original recipients received five heifers each, and they agreed to provide proper health and to pass on five heifers.
At the recent Passing on the Gift ceremony, Mr. Hardin, a co-op member and recipient, said: “We are grateful for this opportunity of receiving quality heifers to enhance our cattle herds, with excellent technical support from Heifer’s South Central staff. Presently, there are more than 200 Heifer animals among 22 families working to help save rural America, and with this gift from [Heifer International] our dreams will come to fruition.”
The project hopes to complete another pass-on by year’s end.
